I’ve found the reward badges and friendly competition features of fitness trackers motivational, and I also love the reminders to get up and stretch, stand, or move around when I’ve been sitting for too long. I think activity trackers are great-I generally loathe exercising and need all the help I can get. And I was an early adopter of activity trackers like the Fitbit, and you’ll often still find me with one on my wrist. I live in a smart home, tricked out with the latest gadgets and devices. If he settles in the first 20 minutes, which is what nearly always happens, then it was something he could get through on his own. Typically, we find that if it's been 20 minutes, it's not just a 'preference' to him, it's a need. It's developmentally normal for toddlers to have a preferred parent at any given point. (Feeling sad and wants comfort just really misses you even though you spent all day with him etc. The way we see it, there's no real reason to deny him his preferred parent, and there could be very real reasons as to why he wants parent A tonight instead of parent B. If my son (2.5) is that dead set on having a particular parent, we'll eventually have that parent go in to say goodnight.

So on that account, I’d say I would try to be a little bit nicer on yourself!!! This probably has nothing to do with you and more the fact your child doesn’t want to go to sleep, though of course I could be wrong - you know your child, but that’s just how I feel when I read this. Now she wants her water out of the bedroom entirely because it’s very upsetting to her Or my personal favourite, she starts demanding I grab her things: “mommy CUPPPP” she wants her water… then she doesnt want her water. She will legit sit there screaming mommy at me even though I’m right beside her. I lay in the room with her til she falls asleep, but sometimes it doesn’t even matter because she so desperately just wants to stay awake that nothing will make her happy until she finally passes out. I’m a single mom so my situation is a bit different, but my daughter (2.5) does something similar where when she’s tired and knows it’s bed time, will make a fuss about how she needs to go find the cat and say goodnight, she needs another snack, pooped etc lol wants to suddenly call people on FaceTime (we do that sometimes in the day, but never at night)Īnything that involves not going to sleep. I basically went in as soon as I could y’all. If the scrubbing had only taken 10m, he’d have been crying for less than 10m. However I DO think we can all agree that the hardcore, 20-30m of inconsolable sobbing is the absolute fucking worst.Įdit 2: he was crying for the 20m I was scrubbing the shit out of my legs to make sure the poison ivy I landed in didn’t get on anything else.

I had to wash the bug spray and poison ivy goo off and really didn’t want to get that all over my son’s bed. I spent all day with my kid today and didn’t do bedtime bc 1. He’s in bed, screaming for mommy, even though his daddy is right there snuggling him and singing to him. It’s been fine for all 2 years of this kids life. My husband and I alternate bedtime duties.
